About OIRD

Non-governmental diplomacy for dialogue, peace and human rights

OIRD – Organizzazione Internazionale per lo sviluppo delle Relazioni Diplomatiche (International Organisation for the Development of Diplomatic Relations) is a private, non-governmental international organisation. It was established in 2005 by CICS – Comitato Internazionale Cooperazione Sviluppo, a non-governmental organisation founded in Rome in 2004, as a network of Diplomatic Correspondents and Ambassadors at Large.

OIRD works in public, preventive and supporting diplomacy and in multilateral cooperation. It promotes dialogue between institutions, diplomatic missions, international organisations and civil society, with a focus on peace, human rights and conflict prevention.

Legal status. As a non-governmental organisation, OIRD may promote and facilitate diplomatic relations but holds none of the prerogatives reserved to States. Its members do not enjoy diplomatic immunity, consular privileges or official State representation. Titles such as “Ambassador at Large” and “Diplomatic Correspondent” are internal OIRD qualifications.
